I had an emergency going up the hill, the emergency group got there super fast and helped me recover, Roger Ennis was the Ranger that helped me. Very kind and professional. He even gave me and my boyfriend a ride back to our car at the parking lot! This place have excellent personal!
The visitor center is a great place to start, if you have never been before. Great place to get your bearings, use the sparkling clean facilities, and enjoy the butterfly garden.
Absolutely breathtaking are and hike. We did the paid labyrinth and lemon squeeze but it's worth it. Going in at 10:30 and coming out at 5 we could hardly do any more hiking just to find the free entry trail. This is strenuous even though you won't realize it only until you have to walk 2 miles to the parking lot at the end of scrambling all day.
Memberships are available, which would be a savings if you intend to come more than once in a year's time. The family membership is an especially great bargain.
If you think there is going to be a big, victorian building with a porch overlooking a lake to rest on, a boat launch, a stone tower and rustic snugs along the path to rest in, you are mistaken - those photos are of the property adjacent. Mohonk Mountain house is an expensive hotel which will discourage you from approaching the structures as non-paying visitors. You have been warned!
Wonderful hiking, cycling, climbing and in certain places, horseback riding. Seasonally, you can x-country ski.
The photos connected with this location on Google are not accurate. While you can hike over to them, it is not the Mohonk Preserve.
Love this place. So many trails. Beautiful backdrop. The scenery is so beautiful during fall but expensive just to get in the ground and expect to wait for hours to be able to park during weekend on the fall season. Their parking is so small for a very huge property.
Where else but Mohonk Can you go on a forty five minute hike and be able to view 6 different states. The hotel "Mohonk mountain House" is quite expensive of not overpriced and the rooms are nothing to write home about. I speculate that the cost of staying at the hotel subsidizes preserving the lands surrounding the hotel. If you can afford to stay at the hotel then do so, but you don't have to stay at the hotel in order to enjoy the hiking trails or the biking paths. The only caveat there is that you have to park down by the guard tower if you're not a hotel guest.....so you have to hike up the mountain just to get to the hiking trails. A little life hack.....you are granted access to all the amenities of the hotel if you either book a spa appointment or done at the hotel. Although both of those are not cheap not free, they're certainly cheaper than the hotel. Apart from the trails, the hotel has a lake with boats and other water sports, there's an ice skating rink, mini golf, and you can go on a horse and carriage ride.
